Flywheel Help For Riders

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Flywheel?

Flywheel is an app for iPhones and Android smartphones that lets you hail a cab, watch as your cab approaches, and pay for your cab ride using your smartphone.

Why should I use Flywheel?

The top 3 reasons you should use Flywheel are:

  1. No Waving

It’s just two taps on your phone to hail a cab. No need to wave your hand on the street or call the cab company.

  2. No Wondering

Know exactly when your cab will arrive. You can see the cab approach on the map and talk directly to the driver.

  3. No Wallet

Flywheel securely stores your payment information and charges your card at the end of the ride. No need to hand cash or a credit card to the driver.

Where can I use Flywheel?

Flywheel is currently available in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. If you're in another area, check back again soon since we are constantly adding new cities.

How much does a cab ride on flywheel cost?

A cab ride on Flywheel costs the metered fare plus a $1 service fee. You control the tip amount.

If you request a ride in Seattle, you can estimate your fare by going to the Seattle Fare Estimator.

Can I cancel a cab ride?

You have two minutes after the driver accepts your request to cancel. If you cancel after that period, you are charged a $6 cancellation fee to compensate the driver for the time and fuel he or she spent trying to pick you up.

Why do I need to enter my mobile phone number?

Flywheel requires your phone number so that drivers may contact you directly if they cannot find you or to confirm your pickup location or any special requests. We mask all telephone numbers; your personal number is never given to drivers.

Why do I need to enter my credit card?

Your credit card is used to pay for your cab ride. At the end of the ride, you simply walk out of the cab and your card is charged. You never need to hand cash or a credit card to a driver again!

How does tipping work?

While you are in the cab, you can choose a tip percentage or enter a dollar amount. At the end of the ride, your tip selection is automatically applied and charged to your card along with the metered fare and the service fee.

If you don’t change the tip amount, we apply a 20% tip by default.

Can I use more than one promo code?

It depends on the parameters of the promotion. Some promotions cannot be used more than once. For example, if you have already used a driver referral code, you won't be able to use another driver's unique referral code.

Can I use a promo code more than once?

Each promotion code can only be used once per account.

I tried to enter a promo code, but I see an "Invalid Code" error.

If you see this code, it is possible that a promo code of this type (e.g. another referral code) has already been redeemed on your account or your mobile device. If this is not the case, check to see if the code has a typo. It is also possible that the code has expired. Please contact customercare@flywheel.com if you have questions or concerns.
